A 4-year-old girl died after apparently drowning in a Danvers river on Sunday, police said.
Police responded to River Drive at around 12:16 p.m. for a missing girl. The child had wandered off from the residence, according to the report.
Officers searched the area and found her submerged in water along a river bank, according to police.
“She was removed from the water with no signs of life and CPR was immediately provided by our officer,” Danvers Police said in a statement.
Danvers firefighters and Atlantic ambulance personnel arrived on scene and began additional medical care. The girl was transported to Beverly Hospital as CPR continued.
“Unfortunately, after many extensive efforts to save her, she was later pronounced deceased,” police said.
Danvers detectives and State Police assigned to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident.
Police said, “The Danvers Police Department would like to extend out our deepest condolences to her family. They will be in our thoughts and prayers.”
